1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you register, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name.

Payment information: Payments are processed by Stripe. We store only a Stripe customer ID — we do not store full credit card numbers.

Usage data: We collect anonymized analytics on how you use the Service (pages visited, searches performed) via PostHog. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.

Report queries: We log the business names you search to improve data quality and detect abuse.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide the Service, process payments, send transactional emails (e.g., report delivery, account confirmation), and improve ProofReports.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.

3. Data We Analyze (Public Business Records)

ProofReports analyzes publicly available information about businesses — including Secretary of State records, WHOIS data, Google Business Profiles, BBB records, website content, and public social media. This data pertains to businesses, not individuals, and is sourced from public databases.

4. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies to maintain your session and remember your login state. We use PostHog for product analytics — this can be opted out of in your browser settings.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by emailing privacy@proofreports.com.

Report data (business trust scores) may be retained for analysis and quality improvement purposes in anonymized form.

6. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted database connections, and regular security reviews. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services: Stripe (payment processing), Resend (transactional email), Neon (database hosting), Upstash (caching), and Vercel (hosting). Each has its own privacy policy governing their data practices.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, email privacy@proofreports.com with your request.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
